A team is a group organized to work together. Teamwork is something that is going to happen in everyone's lives at one point or another. It is very important to know the roles of a team. There has to be delegated tasks in order for everything to move smoothly. There are five important roles in team building. The five roles are: leader, facilitator, recorder, timekeeper, and the general team members.
Team Leaders are responsible for moving the team to accomplish its task. Team leaders should ensure an environment that helps teams get their work done. For example, the team may need to meet off site, or require work samples, products or other items. The team leader is responsible for obtaining these resources, and if they are unavailable, then the team leader must inform the team of the situation and direct the team to consider other options.
Team facilitator keeps everyone on track. The Facilitator is often not a member of the team, and the logic behind that is so they can remain neutral in team decision-making. When a facilitator is part of the team, the role of facilitator may rotate from member to member. Facilitators develop and manage the process for the team, helping them to stay on track and proceed through ground rules. An example would be: "You agreed everyone would have input, and we haven't heard from Bill. Bill, would you like to share your reactions to the discussion so far?" Facilitators help the team through situations similar to that by neutralizing potentially dominating people. The result is a process reflecting the group's collective brainpower, not simply the ideas of two or three people. In order for there to be group decisions, the entire group needs to have an input. The dominating people in the group can't make all the decisions in order for the group to run correctly.
The team recorder is responsible for writing down the team's key points, ideas and decisions. Sometimes, recorders work from an easel pad. Recorders can also take notes directly to a pad. Recording comments verbatim is key for a team recorder. Recording the team's ideas is very
