Understanding the war on terror

First I am going to write about the history of terror, then about how it works and operates, and last how Al-Qaeda works in modern times.

A History of Terrorism

The use of violence has been used since the beginning of history, however, the developing of terror in modern era as a mass terror started against the French monarchy. After the French Revolution the next developmental stage came in Russia and Germany after World War l .They started to form mass revolutionary groups. These groups used terror to gain control of the states. The two primary samples were the Nazis in Germany and the Bolsheviks in Russia. In the beginning it wasn’t a tool against monarchys, it was more of a tool used by dictators to control their population during 1790-1945.

Terrorism as a concept started by Revolutionary group in France (The Jacobi’s) in which they used terror as a tactic that would “cleanse” French society form the evils of monarchy. They symbol was the guillotine.

In Russia the Marxist revolution used terror to change the state to represent or give power to the proletariat. They used it to shock people into questioning the power of the states. It was“propaganda of death”. They believed terror attacks would produce fewer innocent victims than mass insurrection. In Russia the Bolsheviks used terror in the name of a revolution. The Bolsheviks were the minority party and in order to win the Russian civil war they used terror and intimidation. Lening and Trotsky created the Red Army and the secret police (Checka) to turn Russians into Soviets and they wanted to achieve that by putting the daily lives of the citizens consumed by fear, they also used food to pit urbans against rural and rich against poor. The Soviet Union was the first to make terror a daily companion (fear of what your neighbor would say).

Another organization was the National Socialist German Workers Party (Nazis). The SS started as a bodyguard for Adolf Hitler. It was the supreme organization of terror, they were responsible for killing millions of Jews in Nazi-occupied countries. The reason of terror in this case was the purity of the race. The SS work with a secret police organization Gestapo, who was famous in 1933 for their ability to torture individuals.

Other Countries used terror as an expression of national liberation as Cuba and Vietnam. Munich was a very famous example for using the surprise logistic of terror witch resulted with the death of innocent athletes.

The International Environment (UN)

After World War II the organization of the United Nations was established to prevent future episodes of genocide and war. The UN was successful in facilitating diplomatic communication so the cold war did not become another war.

We also have the problem of the state sponsor terrorism on relationships between Iran, Syria and their sponsor of the terrorist group Hezbollah. Iranians have expanded their influence in the Middle East by helping the establishment of the Hezbollah. They have the ideology of killing Americans.

North Korea has been a sponsor of terrorism by exporting missile technology, weapons of mass destruction, drugs and counterfeit currency.

Al-Qaeda

Before I mentioned terrorism as tactics connected to some type of political objective whether if they were anarchists, Marxists, or nationalists. Now we have Al-Qaeda and its leaders. Their first objective is killing Americans. In 1996 Osama Bin-Laden announced that Americans should be killed. As a result of the attacks of September 11, 2001, President Bush has said if you help a terrorist you will be treated as one. The beginning of Bin-Laden’s
