War is a controversial topic, with roots stemming deep into questions such as; what causes war? When is war justified? And one that has bewildered even the greatest minds of today, Can war be positive and productive? I think that war can be positive and productive because; I think violence can be used to decrease violence; It boosts the national economy, and brings nations together.
In many cases around the world war is a word that is frowned upon because of harsh conditions and the thought of humans killing one another. This fear is something that every nation must deal with never knowing when conflict may arise. Despite the loss of lives and destruction of land I believe that violence is an effective way to decrease violence. An example would be WWII; Nazi soldiers carried out violent acts towards Jews and gypsy's. Led by Adolf Hitler, the Nazis continued countless acts of mass murder and destruction eventually taking over many parts of Europe. With the use of war, the allies were able to stop a violent and oppressive revolution. Without a war the Nazi's would have stopped at nothing to fulfill Hitler's dream of a world dominating Aryan race. Another example can be found when looking at the Civil War. In the times leading up to the war African American men, women, and children were forced into slavery using violence. Through the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation and the Civil War, slaves were freed. In both cases, violence was needed in order to pave the way for less violence.
Although there have been many cases of war being bad for the economy, there are many ways that war is a boost. During certain times and places, war has stimulated the national economy. For instance, during the Great Depression, military spending and war mobilization decreased unemployment. Also, many "patriotic" citizens work harder for less money than normal. Another boost is the advancement in technology.
