The purpose of this article is to show how freedom of speech is not really freedom of. With freedom of speech you would think you could say whatever without being harmed. Well the authors tell us how untrue that is. She focuses on a massacre of a journalist who was mocking Muhammed. The journalist and 12 other innocent people lost their lives because of freedom of speech. Many have lost their careers as well as their name. The destruction of freedom of speech can happen in many different forms. With social media being a big part of today society, you could be targeted by millions around the world. In today society people must watch what they say even if you do not agree with something someone said. The author suggest that we should stand up for the freedom of speech rights. She also states that if we stand for one, that we should stand for all. You shouldn’t be able to pick when someone can use freedom of speech. Why is it that we are limited to what we can say?

The author tells basically how difficult it is to be a publisher or television broadcaster. Even though your protected by freedom of speech, you are still limited on what to talk about. He states that publishers cannot avoid the risk of libel. Mr. Ashley never really went in depth about the freedom of speech, but talk about how the danger that could be face. How is it possible to have freedom of speech if we still can’t say what we want?

Kalefa talks about freedom of speech on campuses. He explains how free speech on campus has grown broader but vaguer. Many believe that there is no such thing as freedom of speech and that it’s a good thing. On college campus students are encourage to express themselves, but if others don’t like what they’re saying then it’s a problem. Kalefa states that many campuses have restricted campus speech codes. He then talks about how a journalist name Lindy West wrote about how she was being harassed online for saying something others thought was offensive. This article shows how freedom of speak on campuses is slowly becoming a major problem.

This short films is about a young man wanting to stand up for something. His family and friends are telling him that he has not right to say anything. The young man is planning on joining a freedom of speech rally, but his family is trying to talk him out of. He strongly believes that if he stands with the rally people that it could make a different. Every time he tries to explain to his family, they tell him to shut up. His dad tries to convince that his whole agenda is pointless, and that he doesn’t have the right to go against the government. By the end of the film the man is sitting at the table with family, but has a mask over his face. The representation of that is his family casting him out for standing up for what he believes is right even though they feel different.
