Web Page Critique

By: Lucas Towne

The first page that I am looking at is http://www.burlbank.com/Index.htm

The reason that I choose this site is because I bank here. I was wondering how easy it would be to get to the information that I wanted to know, and how well was it organized. I have taken the time to literally tear the site apart and now I will tell you what I have found.

- Process and Site Design:

Ð'* The site is very basic and a lack of design. I have seen better bank sites as far as design go but the security on this site is top notch. I have tested the java script injection as well as using a web crawling program to check it. Most and I do mean most, of the links lead somewhere. They lead to where they say they will lead with out a generic 404 error. If the page has a not found error or access denied error, it can be exploited with a JavaScript or sql injection.

- Page Design:

Ð'* This part of the project for Burlbank.com was ok. I think that they could update the look of the site and incorporate new technology into it. Some of it may include Flash, better java and so forth. Although the lack of this software in the site makes it more security sound, it also holds it back a bit. I have seen other pages use it and they seemed to be fine, plus it adds to the "Up to date" feel. Or as some call it "Latest and Greatest." As I said before, the links work with flawlessness. I have checked them all and have found one that was a dead end. I contacted the system admin of the site and it was fixed the same day. At least they are on top of things. All of the links open on the same page. They have good organization and allow for good access to what you want. The only thing that I think could use improvement is the small link for online banking in the upper right hand corner. Most people just want to go directly to that link; it is the whole reason for getting on the site so why not make it more assessable?

- Graphics and Multimedia:

Ð'* This is the worst part of the site. There is one graphic in the upper left hand corner of the site. That's all. You have a couple of frames one is blue and the other white. Other than that nothing, seems a little plain to me.

- HTML:

Ð'* This was an excellent display of html. I have looked at this over and over to find a mistake. I am a rookie so it would not stick out to me if there was one, but never the less I did not see any. The code was written well and there was proper indentation so you could see what you were editing if you were to go back into it later needing to change it.

- Summary:

Ð'* This was one of the better pages that I looked at. I covered all the bases when I came to links and security. The only part of the page that I thought was lacking was the login link for the online accounting. Also, I did not see a lock in my lower left hand corner of the screen when I was online doing my account info updating. I am pretty sure that is a bad thing. I was using Firefox to look at it. I looked the same with Opera and IE 6.0. The site changed with Firefox.

The second page that I looked
