- SEO- The full form for SEO is Search Engine Optimization. This is opted because the search engines want their user to get the best possible results for what they are looking for. There millions of websites on the internet but users generally use search engines to find what they are looking for. So, the search engines need to have sources from where they can provide correct and optimum information to the user. The SEO basically has many ways of ranking the website to appear on the search engine results page. It may contain keywords, links and sources. SEO provides organic results which can also be termed as natural optimization. When we search something on Google and the results page comes on, usually the first few links are paid advertisements. The organic listing is found below the ads which are ranked on basis of keywords, back links, popularity, relevance and authority. For example, if we search dog food on google. The results I got had 2 paid listings on the top. Below these results what I found was the nearest stores I can visit to buy the dog food. And SEO even checked where I was when I searched and gave me locations closest to me. The first 4 organic listings were also from PetSmart. SO, this means google found my keyword in PetSmart’s website, the relevance to dog food, the popularity of the store, the trust with the back links that made it to the rankings. The next result I found after these four was from Petco. This basically means it has popularity, trust, relevance with what I searched but it ranks below PetSmart on the webpage rankings. The next one was Wikipedia.org.
SEM- Search Engine Marketing is a form of internet marketing which involves increasing the visibility of a website in the results page of a search engine often by pay per click. It is important for digital marketing as half of the budget of a digital marketer is spent on search with 31% on paid search and 18% on SEO. So, taking on the same example on the search for dog food, it can be seen in appendix below that the first two listing are paid search, below them are organic listings and to the right are related results. First one was from PetSmart, having the keywords dog/food in its link. The second result was from Royal Canin. Both two were paid advertisements. These companies must have paid a significant amount of money in exchange to get on the top 2 results for the search dog food on google.

Paid SEO- The listing you get when you search something on the search engines which are paid advertisements are paid SEO. IT is basically most useful for the new webpages, who are not popular. They can pay the search engine to show their listing when someone searches relevant stuff to get popularity and volume to their pages. This practice is useful for each engine to raise money. However, the paid searches are also useful because big brands also do that. In my search for dog food the first paid listing I got was from PetSmart, which has the relevant keyword on the website, has backlinks, trust, popularity.
