Case Study 2
- What are the sources/causes of Emily’s feeling of inadequacy?
From reading the case the sources and causes of Emily feeling inadequate are her families and friends perceptions of her and Emily’s own perceptions of herself.
- Is it possible for Emily to change her perception or paradigm that she is not a good college student?
Through the Law of Belief Emily can change her paradigms of herself and by doing that her perceptions will change.
- If you were Emily’s very good friend and she expressed her feelings of inadequacy to you, what advice would you give her?
My advice to Emily would be to quit telling herself that she was inadequate. I would help her understand that our brains are amazing in the fact that we tend to believe what we tell ourselves over and over again. I would recommend that she keeps telling herself that she is smart, fun to be around, and is a good student. The more she tells herself this the better it would get.
- Emily suffers from feelings of low academic or intellectual self-worth. What are some areas that college students might feel inadequate?
Some areas college students may feel inadequate:
- Some feel that they are all alone
- Convincing themselves they are not worth it, “Small little voice”
- Convinces themselves to miss classes
- Taking comments constructively
- Avoid people that look for the worst in you
- What other thoughts, ideas, concerns, or inspiration did you receive as you reviewed this case and your reading of chapter 4 in Inner Victory?
This case was very close to how I felt when I first started school here. I didn’t know what to expect up here at school. I didn’t take criticism well and I felt that I was one of the worst students there. I was then introduced to a book called Navigating Your Mind. This book like Inner Victory taught me what I think is what I tend to believe. It was a hard process but I was eventually able to change my thoughts to being positive and through this process my college life went from a bad experience to one of the best I have had in my life.
