As I to listen to President Obama speech on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma Alabama to mark the 50th Anniversary of “Blood Sunday”. I thought about the question asked What could be more American and If I Agreed with this statement. President Obama throughout his speech single out the most important idea that Americans hold dear which is equal rights not just for some but for all people and sometimes this right must be achieved through struggle. diers to affect social change in America . President Obama in his speech cited several points to remind us of the courage that was necessary to attempt to influence the hearts and minds of a nation. One of the points he focused on and I quote: “Selma is not some outlier in the American experience.  That’s why it’s not a museum or a static monument to behold from a distance.  It is instead the manifestation of a creed written into our founding documents:  “We the People…in order to form a more perfect union.”  “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” 

When president Obama quoted those words from the preamble of the constitution and the declaration of independence he began to make a comparison to the struggle that took place in selma and the forming of our nation .
