What do you find most impressive about Seven-Eleven Japan?
What I found the most impressive fact about Seven Eleven in Japan was its strategy. Seven Eleven has made consistent supply chain choices to support its business strategy based on information systems and distribution systems among other marketing approache.
There are two factors which influence the company's revenue. First, Customer needs that are met, for example the variety of sevices that customers can obtain in the store. Second is the cost of meeting customer needs for example, Seven Eleven was the first company in Japan to introduce a POS system comprising--cash register and terminal control equipament. This distribution system enabled Seven-Eleven to reduce the number of vehicles required for daily delivery service to each store, even though the delivery frequency of each item was quite high.
Seven-Eleven Japan uses “centralized production” coupled with “rapid replenishment” to deliver a variety of semi-fresh food items to its stores. What are the PROs and CONs of this approach compared to making or assembling food items on site (like a Subway sandwich store)?
High cost of transportation, obsolete inventory and lack of extra space this is the CONs now the PROs in my opinion are amazing because Seven Eleven structure the are dominance strategy which help them lowering to cost of marketing and replenishment. The facilities get all the benefits where products are sorted by temperature and decreasing transportation cost.
