The women’s suffrage movement which was the most historians cite as beginning at the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848. It was the conflicts over the extent of universal suffrage soon split the movement. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony both were the abolitionists who spent the Civil War years pressing for full emancipation of all slaves and they also spoke out before hostile white mobs campaigning and lobbying. But they had an anticipation that women would get the vote at the same time as African American men. That was not happened and they turned on old friends and allied themselves with a racist benefactor by arguing for woman suffrage. They compared educated white women to black men who were getting the ballot first. “The women's movement split, leaving radical feminists like Stanton and Anthony on one side and the more moderate women, like Lucy Stone”.

2. Reconstruction is one of the most controversial eras in American history which began during the Civil War and ended in 1877. It was the first experiment in interracial democracy.  Slavery was the central theme of Civil war. On that time, the divisive politics of Reconstruction turned on the status the former slaves would assume in the reunited nation. Reconstruction was widely viewed as an era of corruption and misgovernment which was caused by allowing blacks to take part in politics. This interpretation helped to justify the South's system of racial segregation and denying the vote to blacks, which survived into the 1960s. The impressive thing of new research and profound changes in American race relations, historians view Reconstruction mostly favorable, as a time of genuine progress for former slaves and the South.

The main factors, in both the North and the South, for the abandonment of Reconstruction are High unemployment, hard currency scarce, Northerners more concerned about their own financial well-being and democrats capitalized on depressed conditions and took control of house to stall reconstruction. The north focus on economic issue and used rivers as a transportation for inland.
