D#3: State/Summarize the PROBLEMS faced by Toyota—Due January 30th, before midnight.
Case: 6-5: Toyota.
What specific problems does Toyota face?
Assess the situation, including the future direction of Toyota.
In a SWOT matrix, provide summary of OPPORTUNITIES and THREATS facing the company.
The specific problems Toyota faces is their attempts at the youth market with creating minivans and big pickup truck models as they were disappointing and didn’t appeal to them. Even some of Toyota’s biggest sellers weren’t catching the eye of most consumers. They also remain dependent on the U.S. business for some 70% of earnings. Another problem was that the designs of Toyota’s cars were designed with Japanese consumers in mind and then exported.
Some opportunities include improving product design development that will appeal to consumers so that they want to have some level of style and not just a design that has just Japanese consumers in mind. An ecofriendly car will also appeal to the youth since most of their models are more towards people about the age of 46.
Some threats include the growing marketing of other competitors as they are revamping some of their models and reviving them. Another threat is the strengthening yen as it had an impact on Toyota.
The future direction of Toyota stands with Cho the new president of Toyota who is about to make some powerful changes. Not only can he improve the decision-making process within the company he will make sure workers are more productive to also save time and money. If the changes he wants to make with Toyota succeeds they will be riding a powerful growth wave.
