Why Should Anyone Believe Anything at All?

This book went through the theories, facts, and reasons of why people believe what they believe. One of the theories that were discussed in the book was that everyone on this planet believes in something or someone. It is just something we as human beings do, it is like breathing, it's natural. With nothing to believe in, there is really no purpose to live. What I mean by this is that life would be just pointless, without believing in something, there is no hope.

Whether the faith is Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, Catholic, or Protestant, there are certain factors and reasons that came into play in choosing the particular belief that we believe in today. These could include sociological, psychological, biological, religious, or even philosophical reasons. For some people, the geographical location of where they were born and their culture was a major factor in what they believe in today

For example, I was born into the Adventist church and have been raised by Adventist parents for all of my childhood life. Also, the fact that I was born into a western-cultured country was also a deciding factor that my faith would be a Christian denomination. Generally a western culture is predominantly Christian, so I had a good chance of becoming a Christian. I think it is why many people will believe in what they were taught as a child since it was one of the earliest things instilled in them at a young age.

There are a lot of reasons for believing in the things that people do. These could be profoundly deep religious experiences that touch the heart, to just believing what you want to believe. People believe in what will personally make sense to them and in what will offer a logical or comforting answer to some of the tough questions in life. Some of these may include our origin, what happens to us after death, and other questions.

The book, in its second part, gave reasons about why people should believe in Christianity. There are four basic reasons why Christians can believe in what they believe.
