Why Does Everyone Lie?

Dear reader,
I chose the essay, “The Ways We Lie” by Stephanie Eranon because it caught my attention. Once I started reading it I realized there are various types of lies.now i can explain when someone lies more efficently Every lie has its own genre and it's own circumstance. I hope this interpretation demonstrates the various classes of lies proficiently and how they reflect individuals in their daily lives. The strongest parts to this summary are the examples and explanations on various classifications of lies. It was difficult for me to organize the various types of lies and the examples the author explained in her essay in a focused manner. What do you think the main points of this summary are? Do you think I have a good understanding of what the author is demonstrating in her essay? Am I missing any main ideas from the reading? If I am, please rationalize.
Everyone Lies But Why?
Stephanie Ericsson, in her essay, “The Ways We Lie,” does an fantastic job of explaining how and why everyone lies. Ericsson’s argues that not all lies are necessarily bad and often times are necessary. However, she makes several points about how some lies can have serious consequences and can be harmful to the person lying or the person being lied to. We all lie! We exaggerate, we minimize, we avoid a confrontation, we apre people’s feelings , we conventionally forget, we keep secrets.(pg.159) When we lie there are always consequences right? It doesn't always have to affect the liar but also the person that is accepting the lie. Ericsson argues that any lie affects someone somehow.
Ericsson talks about the different types of examples of how we use lies to help and hurt our self in our everyday lives, and how it also affects the American cultures. Ericsson shows the way lies can, as she explains,”lubricate the daily machinery of living”. She also talks about how we as people use lies there ways and others so much that most of us may not realize it. Let's start off with the white lie; which assumes that the truth will cause more damage than a simple harmless truth. An example would be telling a friend they look great when in reality they don’t. But if it's in the best interest to make the person he/she is lying to feel better. At times, their is no harm in lying to someone for their best intrest. Errison states that it is an act of subtle arrogance for anyone to decide what is best for someone else. . Is it okay to lie to someone with the right intentions? It's still counted towards a lie.
