Why Vanderbilt?
For as long as I can remember, I envisioned going to a college with a traditional campus. But equally important, I wanted to be near a major city. Vanderbilt is not only ranked among the premier universities in the country, but it is just minutes away from one of the most beautiful cities in the nation as well. It appears to offer the best of all worlds: a great city, a great campus, a great school. Being so close to a Nashville has countless advantages. Excellent opportunities for internships, social activities, and career prospects are among the many benefits. Unfortunately, because of my rigorous soccer schedule (31 games, seven days a week, over three months) followed immediately by term exams, I have not been able to visit the school, but plan to do so in January. I am particularly interested in Vanderbilt because of its engineering program that offers a management of technology minor, which combines business and engineering at the undergraduate level. Furthermore, I come from a school that instills the virtues of respect and civility, which create an atmosphere that is extremely beneficial for learning. We have an integrated honor code at McDonogh, much like the one at Vanderbilt. I have also found that class sizes are remarkably small at Vanderbilt, boasting an eight to one faculty to student ratio, which will allow for more individual attention and ultimately a better understanding of the material. I look forward to visiting Vanderbilt in the near future.
