As a female, our bodies do things a bit differently from guys. This process is known as a menstrual cycle. Females that come of age and males that may have sisters or a girlfriend know of this process. When a female is on her menstrual cycle, our bodies are preparing us for pregnancy. The menstrual cycle is the regular natural change that occurs in the reproductive system that makes pregnancy possible, meaning it prepares the uterus. Up to eighty percent of women report having several symptoms one to two weeks after menstruation. The most common symptoms females have included acne, tender breasts, bloating, feeling tired, irritability and mood changes.

The first period usually begins for most females as young as the ages between twelve and fifteen. Occasionally, for some females, menstruation can start as early as eight, and this may still be normal. The typical length of time would normally be twenty-one to forty-five days in young women and twenty-one to thirty-five days in adults. Bleeding, whether heavy or light can usually last around two to seven days. The menstrual cycle is circled by hormonal changes. Each cycle can be divided into three phases based on what happens in the ovary or in the uterus. The ovarian cycle consists of the follicular phase (maturing of the ovary), ovulation (availability of egg to be fertilized by sperm), and luteal phase (release of egg) whereas the uterine cycle is divided into menstruation, proliferative phase, and secretory phase. Stimulated by increasing amounts of estrogen in the follicular phase, discharges of blood flow stop, and the lining of the uterus thickens. Sometime in the mid-cycle, the dominant follicle releases an ovocyte, in an event called ovulation. After ovulation, the ovocyte only lives for twenty four hours (sometimes less) without fertilization while the remains of the dominant follicle in the ovary become a corpus luteum; this body has a primary function of producing large amounts of progesterone (plays role
