"A diamond cannot be polished without friction, nor the person perfected without trials." -- Chinese Proverb
The truth of this proverb has only become clear to me in the past few years as I have had to grow and mature at an accelerated rate due to the misfortunes of my family and my own increasing drive to ensure that I arm myself with the tools to build a stable life. For the past four years of my life D.Y.F.S. has been involved with me. At times this was good but it was mostly bad. I often wonder what kind of career I would be driven to pursue if events in my life had not transpired as they did with D.Y.F.S. I aim to change peoples understandings of me and of others like me. All of this has led me on my path and I have concluded that, the state of New Jersey needs help, as does the rest of the country. The D.Y.F.S. system is a flawed division that needs better guidance. The welfare system fails to help families in dire need, while they provide
