Am I a Good Canadian Citizen?
A good Canadian citizen is someone who obeys the laws of the country. Someone that shows off their pride to be a Canadian by singing the anthem and/or displaying the flag. They vote in elections when of age and help with the environment. Although being a good Canadian citizen is more than that, it’s about being tolerant and respectful of those who are different and treating everyone equal. That’s what makes me a good Canadian.
Canadians have the right to have their own opinions and express them freely as long as their opinions or beliefs don’t promote hatred or harm other people. I know what my rights are and that helps me become a good citizen but it also helps me stop others from abusing their rights. Rights come with responsibility. Taking responsibility for yourself and family by getting a job are important Canadian values. I’m trying to get myself a job so I can look after myself and take responsibility. I am a law-abiding community member, I respect the people that look out for us like our police and military. They put their life on the line just so we can live ours safe and freely. Helping others in the community is also something that is expected from a good citizen. Millions of volunteers freely donate their time to help others without pay, helping people in need, assisting at your child’s school, volunteering at a food bank or other charity. Volunteering is an excellent way to gain useful skills and earn friends. Although like me and many other people don’t have the time to volunteer so even the little things count like holding a door open for someone or helping an elderly person put their things in their car.
I think being a Canadian is many things. Everyone is equal, there’s no racism or discrimination of any kind allowed, were a multicultural country and we have manners. But to be a true Canadian is to be loyal to the environment, community and the
