A lot of researchers have debated for centuries on whether or not wearing school uniform is beneficial. In the United States, most public schools do not require students to wear uniforms. However, students are required to wear uniform in private schools. While in most of the countries, either public or private schools require students to wear uniforms. They even have summer and winter uniforms according to the weather. Most of the people think that wearing uniforms can help student decrease the rate of gang activity and behave well in school. However, some of the students think it is inconvenient to wear the uniform since they have to prepare for more before going to school and besides not everyone likes to wear the same boring outfit. Although school uniforms are repealing students’ rights of expression, school uniform can engage students to obey and follow the rules, improve academic achievements and help distinguish student from other people.
While wearing uniforms, students have to obey and follow the rules, so they will learn how to respect others. An article reports “Teachers and principals often report that discipline problems are reduced in schools that implements a standardized dress program.” In addition, wearing school uniforms is a step of preparation for professional life. When you have a job, you will have to wear uniforms. Whether you are a doctor or a nurse, you are in the same position. In addition, school uniforms also help students to realize that they are a part of a group, so they feel like they’re belonged and learn to take responsibility for whatever they do.
Next, when wearing school uniform, a student can concentrate his/her attention on study, and not on comparing his/her outfit with the clothes of other students. Moreover, if school does not require uniforms, it will take more time for students to decide what to wear for the next day. They will have to think so much about clothing, shoes, or hair.
