Are we too dependent on computers? If so is it harmful is helpful?

We are now living in the “Information Technology Age”. Every society depends on the technology to access almost everything in their life. We use computer as a part of all our jobs. Computers are also a very important part in our education. But people nowadays are addicted to them which are extremely harmful to our personal and social lives. Individuals store personal information on the computers that may be hacked and misused by others. We also cannot perform most operations without computers, depending on them for every simple thing in our life. Most importantly, the pressure that is mentally and physically caused to people when excessively using computers in workplaces.

One of the problems we face due to the computers is that we are hooked up to the world of internet. Facilities of the internet are a huge benefit to use but when we depend on it excessively it we get ourselves into a dangerous world of complex connections where anyone can access our personal information from anywhere. It is not safe to store our personal information on a computer or on any networked device as the advanced technology give access to anyone to hack into our devices and steal our personal devices. A survey conducted by the New York shows that there has been a rapid growth in hacking crimes from 125000 - 357000 in 2005.

The advancing technologies offer a new feature that save time of individuals who use it but worsens the mental abilities of the student’s e.g.  The use of calculators provides no skill building for students and as a result students use a calculator rather than working out simple calculation mentally. MS Word is important to students to help them with their assignments, but is also a disadvantage to them. The auto-correct and spelling check features in MS Word weakens the spelling ability of students. As a result students are careless about their spellings and vocabulary as the computer will do it for them.
