I Customer Questions:
1. Is there a pulsation?
a. In the steering wheel
b. In the brake pedal
2. Does the steering wheel pull?
a. While applying brakes
b. While not applying brakes
3. Are there any abnormal noises?
a. Squeak
b. Squeal
c. Grind
II. Preliminary Inspection
1. Secure the car on jacks and remove the tires
a. Do not put on the parking brake ( if manual leave in gear)
b. Store tires face up, underneath the car with the lug nuts in the center hub
c. Inspect the fluid located in the master cylinder
(Check car manual for the brake fluid specifications)
2. Front brakes
a. Inspect the pads for wear (determine if replacement is necessary)
b. Inspect rotors for run out, warp, scoring, and or cuts
c. Inspect the brake line for cracks
d. Inspect the calipers for leaks
3. Rear brakes
a. Inspect the brake hose from the axel for crakes and leaks
b. Remove the drums and check pads wear
(Do not step on the brakes when a drum is off)
c. Inspect the drum for scoring
d. Inspect wheel cylinders for leaks
III. Preliminary Testing
1. Power brake booster- Look for firm pedal about Ð... way to the floor
2. Air Entrapment- Look for fluid to remain the same
3. Master cylinder Bypass- Look for fluid to remain the same or change slightly
IV. Disc brake and rotor replacement
1. Remove the calipers
(Do not let the calipers hang)
2. Rotors must be parallel within .0005 inches and run true within .003 inches
(Do not touch the surface of the brake pads because grease will effect performance)
3. Replace disc pads when the friction pad is equal size of metal backing or 1/32" from the rivets
(When replacing the pads make sure the piston is pushed flat to the caliper surface)
4. Rebuild or replace calipers
5. Repack or replace wheel bearings
6. Reassemble and tighten all components to specification
