Child Protection Services

Last Month, Clark County Child Protection Services commemorated Child Abuse Awareness week. Even though a lot of thoughts when it comes to child abuse are fixated on physically hitting a child, it’s vital to know that it goes way deeper. It can be mental and emotional abuse also.

“Child Protective Services (CPS) investigates reports of child abuse and neglect in your community. In Clark County, CPS is part of the Clark County Department of Family Services (DFS). In Nevada, abuse or neglect of a child means physical and mental non-accidental injury; sexual abuse or sexual exploitation; or negligent treatment or maltreatment of a child under age of 18 caused or allowed by a person responsible for his welfare.” (Department of Family Service, 2017)

I started working for Clark County Child Protection Services as a case worker a little over a year ago because I wanted to make sure that I was doing my part with educating parents regarding child abuse. Obviously, counseling help. But having a worker you can rely on every day is a step closer to a better understanding on child abuse is detrimental to a child’s future.

According to Deputy Director Hammond of Family Service (2017), “Our commitment to our parents and children of Clark County is to continue to work on ways to build healthy relationship and put a stop to child Abuse.”

Knowledge is power, and when you have the education to make better decision it makes all the difference. The time has come for parents to acknowledge that it’s ok to get a helping hand when it comes to raising our children. It really does take a village to raise a child.
