Consumerism and Toys
In today's day and age toys are everywhere you look. Toys can be a great source of entertainment for young children. Some also come with the luxury of teaching your children things they wouldn't learn until they grow a little older. Those are some of the positive benefits. We all know where there are good things there is also bad. I want to elaborate on both the pros and cons of toys so you may understand the way they work.
There are many negative aspects on toys that we could argue but I want to get to the point, "Consumerism!" Now day's children are pretty much begging to become consumers as early as four. Through commercials and advertisement kids already know what they want. When you come home from work and your child is saying "mommy mommy I seen what new toys I want today," That's a problem. Kids are consumers whether you like it or not and its growing more and more by the day!
Entertainment along with educational purposes seems like the more appropriate route to take when purchasing toys for your children. There are toys that can teach your child to read, write, talk, and even start to become more of a active listener. I would rather watch my child play and gain knowledge rather than them running around screaming and braking things for no reason. I'm not saying kids shouldn't have fun toys, I'm saying that there is much more to toys rather that and consumerism.
After discussing the positive and negative aspects on toys I hope this didn't offend anyone. It's better for children to become consumers later in life. After reading this I hope everyone is going to be better-rounded when it comes to your child's entertainment and trying to cut down on them being consumers at such a young age.
