A primary method used to characterize if a choice of objects are made of the same material, is by their density; which lets us know what the objects are composed of. This was proceeded from an analysis of calipers and a graduated cylinder to find out their densities Specifically, a cube, a black cylinder, and a blue cylinder are being measured, which were named by what they look like. Within experimental error, the results are consistent with data reported throughout this paper.
Before the first group launched our investigation we hypothesized that the cube and the blue cylinder are composed of the same material because their physical features seemed similar. The experiment was carried out with calipers to conduct the length, width, and height of the cube, while for the cylinders it was used for the accuracy of its radius and its height. From there, the first group applied the given formulas to calculate the volume of each individual object. The experiment involved an accumulation of the objects mass and this was used by the top loader electronic balance in which answers given were divided by the volume of each object to conclude to a density gathered by the calipers. After, they initiated the displacement of all three objects. One at a time, both cylinders were placed in a 10 mL graduated cylinder, however, due to its shape the cube did not fit in the graduated cylinder requiring a different method, therefore a spill can was utilized to record its displacement. The first group used the objects mass and divided it by the volume found using a spill can and a graduated cylinder and it concluded a second round of a density measurement. At the end of our testing, a comparison on the two density results was seen and recorded the similarities between each and with the second group investigating the same material.
Based on the data the first group recorded, the cube and the black cylinder are considered the same material by the founding measurements of its density using the 10 mL graduated cylinder. As to the cube and the blue cylinder, are the same material by the recorded data of its density using the calipers as its instrument. All values recorded were left to three significant figures excluding the mass by the top loader electronic balance. The first
