Emerging Technologies
Introduction
DKT Learning, Love and Caring LLC is a nonprofit organization founded by three Early Childcare Educators and government employees to help children, youth, and young adults achieve success in reading, math, and science. The three founders consist of Deborah Cunningham, Keeble Newman and Tori Pelzer-Craig who all has worked with children ages 3 – 21 years. We are in the process of looking for software that will keep our information safe, secure and accurate. Along with software that will assist with tracking of attendance of the children, tracking sheet while in our care, keeping parent’s information, and permission slips information. Our goal is to merge all our paper files and information into a tracking software system.
Identify and discuss the new or emerging technological trend
DKT Learning, Love and Caring LLC was in the process of looking for a software to secure and protect our client’s information. We are overgrowing, and our filing system is becoming an issue because we are running out of storage space. We have researched SmartCare and Procare now trying to decide which software will best meet our needs.
SmartCare allows you to try the program without any payments up front. You will be able to access the application from your desktop, mobile device, and the web. We can use it to keep track of the children as well as employees. Also, assist with billing, payments and real-time reports that will help with time management. Parents can receive information with real time updates too (Retrieved from http://www.smartcare.com).
ProCare has been a system that most usual places used that works with children. I have used this software at one of the centers I managed and found it easy and straightforward to use. I have my business partners to review this product. According to ProCare, “modular structure allows you to select only those features that best fulfill your management needs and budget” (Retrieved from http://procaresoftware.com).
Assess the efficiency or potential effectiveness and application of the new trend or tool.
ProCare was chosen because we can customize it to our environment and needs. Not only are we able to moved our files and information into the system but it helps with others things like payroll, tracking attendance for both children and employees, parents have access, our information is safe and secure, free training and support, and we can access data through ProCare Cloud, website, or mobile device. We feel that this was the best choice because it can grow with the organization and we can customize the software at no additional cost.
Do you have any experience (or search the Internet for discussion and feedback) with the tool?
I had worked with the ProCare system for five years when I was a center director. It was the early stages of when ProCare developed. I forgot about this product until I run across one of my acquaintances that own her childcare center and we spoke about me needing a software. After speaking with her, I went online and read up on the product and looked at the changes that have occurred since I lasted used it. To my surprise, the changes ProCare has provided was fantastic, and it has what we were looking for in software. We had a management meeting, and I brought this information, and we discuss both products.
Three months later after everyone was about to gather and research each product on their own be all came to the decision that ProCare would be the better choice. Each one of us took time out to check out a demo, read reviews and spoke with customer support. Also, we made appointments to go into some childcare centers that were using ProCare to obtain their feedback. We could share our feedback on each product which was nice because this vote we were all on the same page. The research part of trying to find a well-rounded software was hard, but with the help of networking, it worked and the process a little easier. The organization is pleased with the performance of the product.
