Well many people (soldiers) know about our Army values, but it’s one that’s means the most to me is DUTY. When I first joined I didn’t understand the importance of the Army Values. As I went through training, BCT and AIT, and also being with my unit I finally understand. I am applying to my everyday life, by decision making, and going through the motions of the life of a soldier in the U.S. Army. Their importance to me is beyond explanation, but I’m going to try to explain.
But how often do you see someone actually live up to them? Soldiers learn these values in detail during Basic Combat Training (BCT), from then on they live them every day in everything they do — whether they’re on the job or off. There are Seven Core Army Values but Duty is one that defines a soldier. They built that foundation, guideline, moral base for me to understand and apply. They help me achieve goals they I’ve set for myself, ever since I was younger. When I joined I was the first and, only one of my siblings to join the military.
Duty is to fulfill your obligations. Doing your duty means more than carrying out your assigned tasks. Duty means being able to accomplish tasks as part of a team. Our work envolves building one assignment onto another. You fulfill your obligations as a part of your unit every time you resist the temptation to take “shortcuts”. Which I have in the past but I am improving, because I know how a soldiers supposed to perform.
