Polishing your writing

Editing is the process of fine-tuning words and phrases to perfect your research paper. Like revision, it requires you to rewrite, but editing means making small or subtle changes to improve language and usage, rather than making substantial changes in the content. Editing involves finding ways to improve your research paper by stating things more clearly and descriptively, by deleting extraneous material, by calling on your vocabulary and by changing word choices to avoid repetition. It also means catching and correcting run-on and incomplete sentences, as well as other errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling (Ellison, 2010, p. 145).

Paraphrase

According to Elison (2010, p. 145), the words and phrases of an ideal research paper is improved through editing. Although similar to revision which also necessitates rephrasing, editing focuses on making minor or understated variations for language and usage improvement, instead of an extensive change to the entire paper. Editing also includes discovering how to develop your research paper by ensuring preciseness and been illustrative, by getting rid of irrelevant information, by accurate choice of words to avoid recurrences. It also signifies indicating and modifying faulty sentences, and in addition correcting grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors.

Summary

Elison (2010, p. 145) states that, editing is the means to have a perfect research paper through the making of minor grammatical changes and corrections to the content. On the other hand, it helps to ensure clarity by getting rid of irrelevant information and using the right words at the right time in your research paper.
