  1. Essential Skills are the Soft Skills needed by Job Seekers to be able to get a Job and succeed in it.
  2. NACE (2013) noted that “what makes a new graduate stand out from equally qualified competitors…is the evidence of the ‘soft skills’ needed in the workplace. Employers prize skills such as communication skills, the ability to work in a team, and problem-solving skills.”
  3. Unfortunately Soft Skills are among the most lacking Skills in Job Seekers
  4. Each sector has its priorities for the required Soft Skills
  5. Soft Skills can be taught and developed

  • Read each attribute carefully and on a scale from 1 to 5 rate each attribute according to your level of agreement to the statement.
  • Whenever an attribute is scored 1 or 2 include a list of actions to improve your skills
  • Use the rubric to assess your areas of strength and weakness and improvement opportunities.
  • The following legend is used:
