After school, I have an appointment at the doctor’s office but I don’t know what it’s for. I’m supposed to go home and then mother will take me… I wonder. Am I sick or can I finally take this stupid thing off my neck? I’ve had it for 5 years already and it’s creeping me out. This, whatever they call, monitor, makes me feel there’s always someone watching me.

“Hi, Peter! Wanna be my friend?” it was the first day of kindergarten. A little kid named Kevin wanted to play with me.

“Are you joking me farthead? You’re a worthless piece of crap that lays on the floor, waiting for me to step on,” I said.

It’s quite amusing to make fun of the kids just because, I’m older, smarter and bigger. I should be friends with big kids not with dweebs like them. There’s a group, I’ll go and see if I could join them.

“Hey guys, what’s up?” I said, trying to fit in.

“HA, HA, HA, this little farthead wants join our gang,” said one of them, and the rest with tears of laughter in their eyes.

“Hey boss, we can actually get something out of this guy,” said the guy sitting beside the really big kid in the middle.

I realized that, to them, I was just like Kevin. I was just like the little kid who didn’t know anything.

“Hey kid, we’ll let you join our gang if you hate everyone in this school, including us,” the big guy said to me.

“You want me to hate you too? I asked wandering.

“Ya! You heard us!” they all said with their red faces, from holding in their laughter.

I’m so confused, but I know that’s easy to do, since I already do almost hate every one. So the next person I saw was Andrea. I said,

“Hey! Why did you step on my shoe like that? Look, it’s dirty now! Come clean it up; you filthy animal!”

The girl started crying, she got scared and somehow, I felt compassionate for her. If the big guy would see me, I wouldn’t make it in the gang. I felt awful, but under “commander’s orders”, just like the army, I better get used to that if I want to become a good soldier. Hey, maybe even commander.

“Yes! Finally, school’s over for the day. I’ve got to go home and show little baby Ender who’s boss from the beginning. Just like what I did to Valentine,” I said, whispering to myself.

“Hi mom, I’m home!” I shouted in a kind way. “Hellloooo! Any one home?” Is anyone because I’m supposed to go to the doc…tor…? Wait, I hear something, it’s coming from upstairs.

“Oh, hi dear…watch your wonderful sister take care of Ender, just like an older sister should!” she sighed with a faint smile on her face.

I don’t care, I’ve still got my monitor, they still want me; unlike Valentine, they took hers out at the age of 3. Ender won’t be a problem; I’ll already be a soldier before him. I’m the best, Ender is just for extra help. Plus, we could be soldiers together. I always knew she liked Valentine more than me; I didn’t really care. It was too obvious, it’s because their girls. My mom still loves me as a son. Just for fun, I’ll try to do what Valentine’s doing.

“Can I hold Ender mom?” I asked.

She nodded, but I could tell by the look on her face, that she was uneasy with the thought of me holding him. While I held Ender, he seemed so cute, a tiny baby. I loved him so much.

“Soon we’ll be soldiers together. We’ll fight and kill all those nasty buggers!” I whispered to him.

Then I looked at Valentine, and I remembered how excited she was, the day Ender came home from the hospital. All day, she was telling me about how she’ll watch over him just like an older sister; in the meantime, I was getting very annoyed.

“Give him to me now, you don’t even care!” said Valentine.

She always pushed away from me, she knows me as the mean older brother of hers. I ignored her and asked,

“Aren’t we going mom? Remember, to the doctor’s.”

“Oh, yes honey! I’ll leave in 15 minutes. Anyways, appointment’s not for another half an hour. Why don’t you just finish your homework and then you can watch TV,” she said.

“Sure mom,” so I ran downstairs and went straight to the TV.

I never had homework; I always finished it before I got home. Plus, my favorite show is on right now and I’ll watch until she comes down. I watched “Astronaut VS Buggers for kids” and “Discovery children” but that was boring. I can’t complain, that’s all that’s on TV these days.

I lost track of time while watching TV; I looked outside and it was dark. So I checked the time and it was 8:00 PM! My appointment was at 5:00 PM and my mother never came downstairs. Did something happen to her? I better go check. Then I saw Valentine coming down the stairs while I was going up.

“Move out of the way you little bugger!” I yelled at her.

“Don’t call me that! Plus, I’m not the little one anymore. Ender is, but don’t you go calling him any names!” she paused and then we both heard Ender crying. “Look what you did! You woke him up because of your rude yelling. You know what? I’m gonna teach Ender how to be nice, unlike you,” she made a noise while sticking her tongue out.

“I couldn’t care less right now; I have to go save mom,” I
