Ethical issues: Conflict of interest

Apple Travel Company may face this unethical issues which is company staff purposely hide the company free gift that should be given to customers and keep it for their own. “A conflict of interest is any circumstance where an individual’s personal interest interferes with the interests of the Company.” (Code of Ethics and Business Conduct, 2016) The employees must be able to segregate their own interest from their workplace dealings.

This issues may arise in most of the businesses, especially travel agency because according to apple travel agency website we found out that they are giving a free luggage for customer if they sign up their luxurious japan tour, with first come first serve biased. The value of luggage is not cheap therefore the staff may want to kept it for themselves and family member instead of give it to the customers thus they will lying to the customer the luggage is finish already and cause the customers thought it is a fraud conducted by company.

This action did not against law but it is ethically wrong because it affected customer’s right and reputation of company.

Recommendation

Apple Travel Company may need to enforce the company code of ethic and improve the ethic awareness among staff. The top management must be aware of what is going on in the organization and cannot ignore the violation of company rules no matter who committed it. If the managers realise the issues above, the manager should take action directly which is compensate the customers a new free luggage and also penalize the relevant staff according to the organization’s ethic policies.

Apple Travel Company may also improve their way of sending free gifts to customers which should clearly indicate the quantity of free gift and others terms and conditions to ensure who can get it and not let the staff have the chance to take it for their own.
