Ethics In the Workplace
I work in the restaurant business and have done so for about four years. My work ethic is tested just about every day. There have been many incidents of bad ethics in every job I have been employed at. Good ethics have occurred also, and I will write about them later.
My second job, Subway, was the perfect example of how having bad work ethics negatively affects a business. There was so much wrong going on, that it took good values and morals just to not copy the bad habits of the other employees and even the boss. One good scenario of my boss’ bad ethics: There was only one manager at the Subway I worked at. She would train all the new employees. There were so many instances when she would negatively refer to another employee to her other workers while that certain employee was not around. I viewed that as being bad ethics in the workplace. My boss had a terrible habit of talking down about her employees. Over the eight months I was there, four of her workers that were employed when I first started had quit. She would then tell others that she fired them all. The worst thing about it is, she would even re-hire them when she needed help and couldn’t find any. The last time I checked, she is thinking about selling her store because she can’t keep good workers. The new people she hires run away her customers because they don’t have good work ethics.
When I worked at a Holiday Inn, all the new employees took long courses on having a good work ethic. Part of that was being honest, loyal, and responsible. Since I was hired as a housekeeper, that meant that I would be going into resident’s rooms and cleaning.
