Annotated Bibliography

Fair, John D. "Bodybuilding and Weight Lifting." New Georgia Encyclopedia. 29 August 2013. Web. 08 September 2015.

John Fairs article “Bodybuilding and Weightlifting” is a guide that explains the significant implant that bodybuilding and weightlifting have in todays world. Published in 2005, John explains that body building and powerlifting have been around since the early 1900s. Powerlifting is a highly competitive sport and is a competition on who is the strongest man based off of three core lifts which are bench press, deadlift, and squat. There is no team in both of the sports and you either succeed or fail on your own. Bodybuilding is who has the best physic Johns article is about how Georgia is home to athletes such as “Bob Hoffman, so called Father of American Weight Lifting, two Mr. Americas, a Mr. Olympia, two of the worlds greatest female power lifters, and a world champion arm wrestler.’ Also how “Georgia holds the best powerlifting programs in the nation.” This article is addressed to people who lift and body build in the state of Georgia.

Growing up in the state of Georgia this article has influenced me and my peers for a long time to keep grinding in the gym and hopefully one day make our names as popular as one of the founding fathers of both sports. I love the story that John describes “Paul Anderson was considered a cold war hero because in Moscow, Russia no man could bench press over 400 pounds.’ “Anderson was a symbol of American strength.” His analysis of the history of Bodybuilding and powerlifting provides me with a valuable background of the history of both sports. In my paper, I want to argue why weightlifting and bodybuilding will benefit everybody in becoming fit and healthy individuals. The article will help me identify how far we have come in the sports today.
