5.1. Introduction
The socio-economic aspect of this study will clearly state its economic impact to the society.
The objective of this aspect is to determine the benefits it can give the families and individual, government and the probability that the proposed project would have to be accepted by the people who are directly affected.
5.2. Economic Condition
5.2.1. Business in the Philippines
According to the report studies of Future Market Insights or FMI pet care market is mainly driven by the burgeoning trends of pet humanization and increasing adoption of private-label brands in country. Philippines is on 6th place worldwide for most population of dogs and included on top 50 for cats.
The performance of pet care in 2015 was similar to 2014. Volume and value growth were slightly faster in 2015 than in 2014. This is indicative of the improved willingness by Filipinos to provide proper care for their pets with the majority preferring affordable options. As well as the improvements in the country’s economy, the continuous efforts of various players to disseminate information about the nutritional requirements of pets and other aspects of providing proper pet care helped the performance of pet care in 2015.Pet owners are now more inclined towards more nutritious, healthy and organic foods for their pets.
By type, Philippine pet care market is segmented into dog food, cat food, pet products and others. Dog food is the major segment in the country, accounting for a 51.6% share of the market in 2015. This growth is attributed to consumer buying habits and an increasing inclination of pet owners to purchase health and wellness products from reliable sources such as veterinary clinics and pet shops which is also offering a wider range of product and brand options.
Improving consumer lifestyles and increasing disposable income in the country has resulted in a growing acceptance for pets, not only among the high-income group, but also the middle-income group.
The pet care market in the Philippines is expected to register a significant CAGR of 8.4%. This is expected to be followed by Vietnam at a CAGR of 8.0% in overall pet care market rate in South East Asia. Pet care is expected to see improvements over the year with a value CAGR this is because more pet owners are likely to switch from table scraps as awareness of proper pet care increases and their purchasing capacity improves.
5.2.2. Business on the proposed location
Dasmariñas is the largest city, both in terms of area and population in the province of Cavite. It is now the largest component city and the 12th largest city in the country in terms of population with 659,019 people. It is classified as "first-class" city in terms of income classification and has a land area of 90.1 square kilometers (34.8 sq mi). It is strategically located at the intermediate zone of the Metropolitan Manila area. With adequate accessibility, Dasmariñas is within the urbanizing development influence of Metro Manila area. The city of Dasmariñas is one of the fastest growing local government units in the province of Cavite. Numerous commercial establishments, which include major shopping malls, fast foods, groceries, convenient stores, restaurants and other service-oriented businesses, are mostly concentrated in the City Centre and the Central Business District. Industrial establishments are located in the outskirts of the city. It has the greatest number of universities in the province.
From an agricultural-based economy, the town of Dasmariñas has evolved into a highly urbanized, commercialized and industrialized city. Dasmariñas is home to hundreds of thousands of residents who occupy the more than 70 residential subdivisions in the city. It also serves as a haven to investors with its industrial estates and diverse pool of manpower. The rapid growth of the city's population near universities, industrial estates and factories provides a ready market for real estate ventures such as subdivisions, apartments and other support services. Its infrastructure projects involving major road construction and widening support the city in its functional role as one of the residential, commercial, industrial and university centers of Cavite. To protect its environment, Dasmariñas has adopted its Luntiang Dasmariñas program, which is envisioned to plant 100,000 seedlings planted over the town during the year 2000.
Given that Damarinas is home to hundreds of thousands of residents, there is a high possibility that among these households, people living in this city have their pets. Food products, vaccine and grooming are few necessities for their dogs and cats.
