Abstract
In this paper I will explain the four different functions of management and how each function relates to Cornerstone Services Incorporated. This paper will specifically define planning, organizing, leading, and controlling.
MANAGEMENT:
According to Bateman and Snell, management is the process of working with people and resources to accomplish organizational goals. A manager must know how to be effective and efficient to be a successful one. A good manager will achieve company goals with minimal waste of time, money, and labor. To achieve anything, a company must be able to plan ahead, organize goals, provide strong leadership, and promote quality assurance.
PLANNING:
Planning is the "strategy" of a company. According to Bateman and Snell, planning is specifying the goals to be achieved and deciding in advance the appropriate actions needed to achieve those goals. Planning is an ongoing practice that must be flexible enough to overcome both internal and external factors that affect a company's functions. These practices can range from analyzing current trends to Bateman and Snell, determining how to compete with other markets. Plans are put in place to help direct a company to favorable outcomes.
ORGANIZING:
Organizing is putting together all the resources needed to complete a company's goals. According to Bateman and Snell, is assembling and coordinating the human, financial, physical, informational, and other resources needed to achieve goals. When a company sets out to organize, its goals, it must consider who they want to hire, what the jobs will be, creating departments, locating resources, and building an environment that will achieve maximum results.
LEADING:
Leading is encouraging staff to become high achievers. According to Bateman and Snell, leading is stimulating people to be high performers. Leadership is the key to team success. To be a good leader, a management team must motivate, effectively communicate needs and goals, and guide the team with inspiration.
CONTROLLING:
Controlling is monitoring the company's performance. According to Bateman and Snell, controlling is monitoring performance and implementing necessary changes. If a company wants to achieve a high quality of success it must have a quality assurance plan. This will ensure that the company is using its resources effectively and meeting its standards.
THE FOUR FUNCTIONS WITHIN MY ORGANIZATION:
As an organization, my company will plan, organize resources, lead and study control devices on a quarterly basis. Coordinators meet with the chief executive officer and vice-presidents to generate new departmental goals and objectives as well as allocate the resources needed to achieve these goals.
