Gen Y in the Workforce
INTRODUCTION
The case study Gen Y in the Workforce presents office relationships and behavior in the workplace. The company Rising Entertainment is developing an advertising and branding plan for its new movie where the manager and team member have different ideas about the film promotion.
FACTS
Rising Entertainments- one of the top three multimedia production and distribution companies in the world.
Sarah Bennett- 37 years old Marketing chief of the movie division
Josh – 23 years old marketing associate, recent University of South Carolina Graduate who got his job at Rising Entertainment behalf his uncle.
Josh during the meeting when his manager Sarah was outlining her marketing ideas criticized her campaign as old-fashioned. Also, he presented his concepts about new media, which were not precise and detailed. As a result Sara did not like them. Later on Josh instead of working on team project, he was doing his own calculation and research. Josh went with his new media project straight to the CEO Sam who offer him a speech during the Friday meeting.
ISSUES
The main issue in the presented case is the lack of communication between the manager and employee. Josh did not try to present his new media ideas to Sarah before the first meeting. He just criticized her plan in front of the group and didn’t even try to convince her to his ideas, which were not precise. On the other side, one of many managers role is a communication and Sarah did not communicate with her team members well. She did not read Josh report, just wrote him back “Great job! You are the best” even she knew it’s sketchy and not well done. She didn’t invest the time.
