Hero Essay

Heroes are often seen as mythological legends, "endowed with great courage and strength, and celebrated for his (their) bold exploits." Some may also say heroes are noted for their "feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life" . There are many other definitions of what a hero may be. My personal view is that a hero can be anyone of whom you relate, and also more importantly stands up for what you believe. It is easy to think of Superman as a hero, however does Superman actually represent or reflect the same values you feel are important in life? A cartoon character tackling evil with violence doesn't feed my fancy. First of all, violence is more destructive than it is productive, this can be seen from every war in history. Take for example the Iraq War, where violence or "an invasion to topple a totalitarian dictator who hordes weapons of mass destruction" did not achieve anything other than human death, and of course to prove my point. I reject the stereotypical idea of a hero, and I also feel it is impossible to find a hero that you directly relate to. Personally, it is difficult to look past someone's true opinions as I believe they derive or create their true personality. Thus in order to call someone a hero their opinions must match your own, and that is difficult if not impossible to find in the real word.
