Hispanic American Diversity
Over the past years there has been thousands and thousands of Hispanic American’s immigranting to the United States of America. Four Hispanic Americans that will be talked about in this essay is Mexican Americans, Puerto Ricans, Cuban Americans, and Salvadorians. These groups of Hispanic American’s are so much alike but also different in many ways.
Mexican Americans
Mexican Americans are the largest group of Hispanics living in the United States today. Many Mexican Americans suffer economically and linguistically because they are considered blue collar workers that speak spanish in their homes. Mexican Americans that work in the United States usually work on a lower pay scale which makes it easier for a Mexican American to find a job in the United States. Mexican American people who are U.S. citizens are considered more educated then immigrants so there for they usually make more money then immigrants. Twenty six percent of Mexican Americans are bilingual, and 51 percent are Spanish dominant. Some Mexican Amercians will never learn the spanish language and only know the English languange. Mexican Americans are of Catholic Religious beliefs. Their families are of average usually having two children. Mexican Americans are considered hard workers although immigrants are considered harder workers then U.S. citizens.
Puerto Ricans
Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States. Puerto Ricans have common citizenship, currency and defense as the Citizens of the United States. Although Puerto Ricans are considered U.S. citizens they still pay no federal income tax or they can not vote in presidential elections. Over 2 million Puerto Ricans live in the United States.
