How to install an Operating System on a Computer
As far as I remember, I have not had difficulties installing my very first
Operating System about nine years ago. It was Microsoft Corporation's
Windows 95. Being precise this process was more like software upgrade,
than installation of new Operating System, because I had just overwritten
previous version of OS, I had installed on my computer.
First step is to prepare the system for installation of new Operating
System. Simply, while starting computer press "DELETE" key on the
keyboard, so BIOS, software installed on motherboard, will run. Go to
"BOOT OPTIONS", then point to "FIRST BOOT DEVICE" and press
"ENTER", select FDD (Floppy Disk Drive) as a first boot device. Save
changes, then restart computer. After that insert floppy diskette with MS-
DOS operating system to FDD. Computer will run from FDD, then two
sentences will appear on the screen, asking whether you want to load
system with CD-ROM support or not. Choose first line, then press
''ENTER'' key. Loading system will take about a minute. When it is loaded
type "format_c:", then press "ENTER". System will give a warning: "All data
on drive C will be lost, proceed? (Y)es or (N)o". Press "Y" letter on
keyboard and press "ENTER". Formatting will be completed in couple
minutes. Later system will ask to put in "Label" to HDD. Insert up to eleven
characters and press "ENTER". System is ready for Operating System
installation.
Second step is running Operating System Installation Disk from CD-
ROM drive. Type "d:setup.exe", installer will run shortly. Program will also
load mouse pointer, so navigation will be much easier. Installers of modern
Operating Systems are very simplified, so you should have no problems
putting them in. Insert product key, and simply choose options and pick
programs Operating System offers. Later you will be asked to set date and
time, so adjust them and the rest will be done by installer. Seat back and
enjoy, installer
