SPECIFIC PURPOSE: To inform my audience on how to make Rice Krispies.
CENTRAL IDEA: With easy preparation, recipe instructions and presentation, Rice Krispie are the easy no-bake treats all an year long craving.
INTRODUCTION
I. (Attention getter): What snaps, crackles and pops? That is right, Kellog’s Rice Krispies Cereal. Rice Krispies have been on our store shelves for more than 75 years. Today, there are many ways to eat this cereal. The most popular way, are as Rice Krispie Treats.
II. (Relevancy): We’ve all had a rice krispie treat. If not, today is your day because I’ll be making them for you.
III. (Credibility and good will): Rice Krispies remind me of my childhood. My mom and I used to make them all the time when I had school breaks. All over the Internet today, there are many recipes.
IV. (Preview): To make “the perfect Rice Krispie Treat”, I will be sharing with you what ingredients you will need, how make them and the different ways we can serve Rice Krispies!
V. (Reveal topic): The recipe I’m sharing with you today is the original account from Kellog’s on how to make Rice Kripie Treats.
(Transition: Now that I have discussed what I will be talking about today, we can dive right in to the most important part, making them.
BODY
I. Let’s start off with what we really need.
A. To get the best tasting Rice Krispie treat, we will need all the ingredients.
1. 3 tablespoons butter
4 cups JET-PUFFED Marshmallows
6 cups Kellogg's® Rice Krispies® cereal (Kellog’s)
B. Use the ingredients recommended by Kellog’s.
- Some substitutes may or may not affect the outcome of the Rice Krispie.
- 1 jar (7 oz.) marshmallow crème can be substituted for marshmallow
- Diet, reduced calorie or tub margarine is not recommended. (Kellogs)
(Transition: Now that we have prepared our ingredients, we can start making Rice Krispies.
II. I’ll demonstrate step by step how to make Rice Krispies.
- In large saucepan melt butter over low heat.
- For microwave directions:
- In microwave-safe bowl heat butter and marshmallows on HIGH for 3 minutes, stirring after 2 minutes. Stir until smooth. Microwave cooking times may vary.
- In a larger bowl, add KELLOGG'S RICE KRISPIES cereal.
- Add in the marshmallow and better mixture.
- Stir until well coated.
- Using buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray.
- Press evenly but don’t kill them. The more you mash the cereal down, the more solid they will be and harder to bite into.
- Cool.
- Cut into pieces
- Best if served the same day.

III. The original recipe for Rice Krispies will always be a classic. But today, there are hundreds of ways to eat them.
- Oreo Rice Krispies.
- A different take on the original by adding in oreos into the mix.
- While still adding the 6 cups of Kellog’s Rice Krispies Cereal, add in 20 regular oreos, chopped into the mix as well. (RayRay)
- Strawberry Rice Krispies.
- Not only a different take, but also a whole new color too.
- With the original recipe, add 1 box Strawberry Jell-o, and for the glaze, 1 cup powdered sugar and 2-4 tablespoons milk
