How To Write An Analytical Essay
- An analytical essay isn’t a summary. Though this may seem obvious in theory, it’s more difficult in practice. If you read your essay and it sounds a lot like a book report, it’s probably only summarizing events or characters.
- One way to figure out if your summarizing instead of analysing is to look at your support. Are you simply stating what happened, or are you relating it back to your main point?
What is an analytical essay exactly?
An analytical essay concentrates on how the book, poem or in our case; film was written – for example: how certain themes present themselves in the story. In short, this type of essay requires you to look at the smaller parts of the work to help shed light on the larger picture.
Possible questions:
1. What role and to what lengths did Christof go to, to keep Truman aware that his life was actually a show.
2. That Christof controlled Truman’s world, because he couldn’t control the rest of the world around him.
3. That once Truman became aware of his surroundings Christof did everything in his power to continue to manipulate and control Truman.
These points can help build your paragraphs.
Each body paragraph should include a topic sentence followed by three sorts evidence to support those claims. The body paragraph is where you get really creative.
Each topic sentence in each body paragraph should tell the reader what this paragraph is exactly about.
