Introduction

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is a leading provider of consulting and outsourcing services, with operations in more than 40 countries. While it offers a full menu of technology and business services, including business process outsourcing (BPO), enterprise systems installation, network management, and systems integration, the company specializes in developing and maintaining customized software for businesses. TCS also provides product and industrial process engineering services as well as strategic consulting and project management services. TCS has 85,582 employees across 67 nationalities, 26% of them are women. About 48% of the employees have been with TCS for over 3 years. TCS has an attrition rate of 11% for IT and 20% for BPO and a utilization rate of 74%.

The core competency of the company is its ability to efficiently recruit, train and manage IT professionals in the wake of high attrition rates. Being a service oriented company, TCS solely relies on its employee base to provide satisfactory results to its customers. The employee training, which is unique to TCS plays a large part in its success in providing client satisfaction. TCS combines structured training with informal learning and on-the-job performance support.
