If marijuana were legalized in Thailand, do you think that would give more advantages or disadvantages?
By looking back around 100 years ago, we can realize that Thais had been freely using Marijuana. In those days, there was no law to control. People actually used it for relaxing and making the food taste better. However, Marijuana became illegal for all parts of the world, starting by the great power, the United States of America. Since then, other countries began to define Marijuana as a drug. So, that is the reason why Marijuana becomes illegal in Thailand. Marijuana has been classified as a Category 5 narcotic, which means that someone who wants to make a profit from the cultivation and trade of Marijuana can be put into jail for the penalty and fines. However, the cultivation can still be found in certain provinces in Thailand.
As you can notice, our country has the weather, which is suitable and supporting for the growth of Marijuana. Because of this, many people can make profit from Marijuana. However, the law in Thailand is quite weak because most people tend to not behave under the law. In my opinion, if using marijuana is adjusted to become legal, the law should not only be strong, but it also should contain the serious penalty. If the country can do, we will definitely gain more advantages than disadvantages. To me, Marijuana is not bad, compared to cigarette since I read some researches, which explain that Marijuana can be used as medicine to heal patients from the diseases – such as, Glaucoma and lung cancer. In contrast, 80 to 90 percent of people, who smoke cigarettes, are diagnosed lung cancer. Lastly, I also read an article about the countries that legalized marijuana. To specify, Marijuana law in Uruguay is interesting for us to take into consideration because it is the first country, in which people can smoke, grow and trade marijuana freely, regardless of the location within the country. Government turns the pharmacist to the dealer by allowing them to sell marijuana, and it supports the business to cultivate Marijuana. Moreover, another country is the Netherlands, which is popular for marijuana, but government do not allow people to sell Marijuana in other locations, except in a café or bars, and do not allow anyone to cultivate. Therefore, most countries that have law to allow people to smoke marijuana do not generally allow people to cultivate it. As I mentioned earlier, I think Thailand can receive benefits from allowing people to use marijuana, and Thai law will definitely control and prevent people from getting high, stimulated from using large amount of marijuana.
