Imperialism

The dictionary definition of imperialism is: a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force. Imperialism changed the world with nations concurring other nations. During this process many lives were interrupted and histories of people and nations lost and forgotten. But there was monumental changes in technology and transportation. I believe imperialism was a positive thing that helped the world be what it is today.
There are so many positive effects from imperialism. Most superpowers brought with them modern technologies and introduced industrialization in smaller nations, boosting the economy. Such as, when the Europeans took over Africa they fought with more deadly firearms, machines guns, new rifles, and artillery guns introducing the Africans to new weapons. Education and scientific thinking was introduced and encouraged. As Europe began to concur other nations Darwin's Theory of Evolution emerged it was a completely new idea that know one had put together before until Darwin. However the Catholic church wanted nothing to do with these new ideas. Also New transportation systems such as rail, road sea and air were introduced. Technologies in the Industrial Revolution advanced the imperialism. Progress in transportation technologies allowed Europeans to progress more and deeper explore unexplored regions. This resulted in the founding of colonies in Asia, Africa, and elsewhere.
There are also some negative results of imperialism. Many nations that resisted growth or expansions in their territory led to widespread genocide and ethnic cleansing. While Europe was invading Africa there was massive deaths from people not wanting to be a slave the rest of there lives. Plus most traditional culture and languages were simply wiped away.
