Joel Chandler Harris
In the late eighteen hundreds there were many talented writers. Joel Chandler Harris was one of the most skillful writers in the eighteen hundreds. Joel Chandler Harris was well known since, he was a great writer, had many different jobs, and his election to the American Academy of Arts and Letter in 1905.
One reason why Joel Chandler Harris was well known was because he was a great writer. He was a great writer because of his journalism skills. His early career consisted of a paragrapher, editor, and a typesetter. He was also known as a great writer because of his stories that was narrated by the character, Uncle Remus. These stories focused on the issues of slavery and white dominance in the time of post American Civil War too. In Joel Chandler Harris's stories he often wrote great information. This was seen through his humor and his creativeness, Harris had a lesson for us all in social order and how people treat their fellow men.
The second reason why Joel Harris was well known was because he had many different jobs throughout his life. One of Harris's early jobs was to work for a local newspaper called Turnworld and The Countryman. He had become a printer's devil for the countryman. Another job Harris held was working as a typesetter for the Macon Telegraph, the New Orleans Crescent Monthly and the Forsyth, Georgia, Monroe Advertiser. As one can see Harris always worked with jobs that dealt with his famous talent which was writing.
The third reason why Joel Harris was well known was because of his election to the American Academy of Arts and Letter in 1905. He was chosen to be a charter member of an elect pantheon of American writers along with the likes of Mark Twain, Henry Adams, and Henry James.
