Leadership

Introduction

In this business world, with the change in the organization structure and the market, the significance of the leadership and leaders enhances. The business world become complex and complicated and in this global business world for any company in order to attain high success and to sustain their growth must require to have the effective leaders and the leadership that support them to manage their operations effectively and build the effective strategies that improve the motivation, engagement and the productivity of the employees (Yang, et al., 2014).

In the organizations where the direct dealing with the customers occur it’s essential for these organization that their employees must be proactive and motivated all the time. Because if the employees of the organization are not motivated they are not able to perform effectively and this impose a negative impact on the quality of service. Consequently, the customers switch to other organization. Therefore, for these organizations leadership and effective leaders are important to improve the employee's motivation through effective guidelines, feedback and communication skill (Bano Fakhra Batool, 2013)

It is also observed that the leadership mainly the transformational leadership in which the leaders have the effective communication skill and understand the needs of employees impose the significant positive impact on the innovation and the performance of the organization that is essential for the service based organization in which dealing with customers are high. This report highlights the leaders and leadership traits that impose a positive impact on employees and organization performance and also provide the recommendation that helps the organization to attain the sustainable competitive edge and growth in the complex global business world (Noruzy, et al., 2013).

Leadership and relevant behaviors in the organization

The organization whose leadership and leaders are discussed in this report is Vodafone Australia. The business in which this company engages in service and require the effective and innovative service that attracts potential customers and retain the existing customers to attain high competitive edge and sustainable position in the telecommunication market. The quality of the service matters a lot in the telecommunication business, and employee’s motivation is highly important. Customer service is one of the main section of this department where the employees listen and help the customers to retain them for a longer period so it’s important that the employees of this department must have high engagement level, motivation level and communication skill (Vodafone Australia, 2018).

For motivating employees and improving their productivity the leadership and the traits of leaders play the important role. Most of the employees reveal this fact that when they have leaders that are not corporative and show bossy attitude their level of motivation and engagement reduce and this impose a negative impact on their performance and customers complain also enhanced (Ojokuku, et al., 2012). But when they have transformational leaders that are highly corporative and provide feedback, listen to employees concerns and provide the effective guidelines and transmit the objective effectively through effective communication skill the employees boost up and their level of motivation also enhances that improve their performance and enhance customer’s satisfaction (Carter, et al., 2012).

Observed leadership:

The leadership and the leader’s attitude has a significant association with the employees and the organizational performance. Generally, three type of the leadership style exists in a world that are democratic leadership style, autocratic leadership style and the participative leadership style (Clark, et al., 2008). It is seen that in most of the organizations especially where the change occurs continuously and deals in the service business like Vodafone Australia most effective leadership style is participative leadership style.

The participative leadership style motivates the employees through engaging them in different tasks and also involve them in the decision making the process by this employees feel that organization value them and appreciate their skills and abilities these aspects enhance their motivation level, and they put their full potential in order to achieve the objectives of the organization. Consequently, their productivity and performance improvements that help the organization to retain the customers for the longer time period and attain high competitive edge (Miao, et al., 2014).  

On the other hand, some studies reveal that the democratic style leadership is effective and useful for organization and employees performance in all the time horizon, while the autocratic style of the leadership is highly effective and useful for the employees and the organizational performance in a short-term time period and the most effective and useful leadership style that impose highly significant impact on the organizational performance and employees performance is participative. In Participative leadership style, the trust among the employees and the leaders also increase that influence the performance and achievement of set goals in a positive manner (Iqbal, et al., 2015)

Recommendation for leaders

From the analysis of the leadership style and their impact on the employee’s performance, it is highly recommended that leaders must possess the participative and the transformational leadership style that helps them to motivate the employees. They must ensure to have effective communication skill that supports them to convey the targets to the employees and provide the effective feedback. They must have a positive personality and collaborative skill that helps them to engage the employees in the decision-making process. As a result, the trust and engagement level of employees improves that impose a significant impact on their performance.
