Leadership - it is not obviously that formal team leader (or team manager) is a real leader of the team. Many teams could have their own, informal leader.
"Leaders are born, not made"
Thus, it is important to remember that real leader is not one who manages the team, or has rights to do this, but that one who really could inspire people and move them where s/he wants.
Such kind of people has following traits: intelligence, initiative, self-confidence, orientation toward achievement and interpersonal skills.
Also style and behavior of management are issues as well:
* Task-management (more for production, less for people) - consider people as commodities; manager`s responsibility is to plan, direct and control the work of subordinates;
* Impoverished management (less for production, less for people) - effective production is unobtainable because people are laze, empathic and indifferent;
* Country club management (less for production, more for people) - production is incidental to lack of conflict a and "good fellowship";
* Team management (more for people, more for production) - production is from integration of tasks and human requirements;
* Middle-of-the-road (the happy medium) - push for production but don`t go "all out", give some but not all, be "fair and firm"
Influencing people is very important aspect of managing team. Personal charisma and authority will help team manager to be real team leader as well.
The following six Ps could help influence people:
1. Position -using rules and procedures
2. Push - coercive by imposing costs
3. Pull - rewards strategies (extra recourses, increase status, access to contact, friendship
