Olaudah Equiano
Dear Olaudah Equiano,
Subject: The Future
I read an excerpt from The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano. You have been through so much in your life. I'm very happy to tell you that most of the things you went through are no longer allowed. A country called the United States of America allows every race in the world to come together and live together. Its actually like that all over the world. Slavery is not allowed in the places you were once a slave at anymore. Everyone is equal, even women. Blacks in this world have gone through a lot. After slavery, even though the blacks were free, it was still horrible. Many couldn't get jobs to support there family and most moved to northern regions were people we more open-minded.
Not so long ago there was a lot of racism. Blacks could drink from the same water fountain as a white person, even shop in the same stores. Gradually things got better to reach the standards that there are today. Blacks, as they now call them in America, African Americans, can now go to school and learn to read and write and even get degrees in various fields of study such as Law and Medicine. African Americans can work anywhere they want and travel anywhere they want. When an African American has a job, they don't do the type of work you're used to seeing on slave plantations, they now work in office buildings, anywhere with Caucasians, White people and get paid money for their services. African Americans can do anything that Caucasians are allowed to do. But I'm afraid to say some people in the world still have there racist beliefs. Some still believe that Caucasians are superior to African Americans that African Americans don't deserve to have equal rights, got to school, I've freely and even work freely. Some still believe that slavery shouldn't have been abolished
