Look How Rich we are Together
In Micere Githae Mugo's poem, "Look How Rich we are Together" is one that brings the tone of mood to a good place. This poem deals with love and compassion and not worrying about anything but eachother. In the first stanza, it is very easy to understand that this woman is so thankful to have a man like she has. "You taught me how to laugh even as tears scorched my burning throat (Lines 5-8)." In relation to this quote, you see that this man was always there for her and was able to make her feel better during bad times and helped her to look at the positive side of things rather than the negative.
In the second stanza, she speaks about how her lover has given her everything such as "a fortune that gave birth to our present treasure bank and in time you taught me to deposit not to take all the time (lines 10-16)." Mugo is trying to compare money and love in this quote. She is saying that their fortune could be looked at as their relationship and how much you put into it which could be compared to how hard you work hard for money which you deposit into a bank. She is also saying her lover taught her that she should put as much of an effort into the relationship as possible rather than take things away from it. He doesn't want her to look at the negative side to things as apposed to the positive.
In the third stanza she says, "Look how rich we are together (Lines 17-18)." In relation to this quote, she is saying that in the sense of being rich she feels that her and her lover have everything they need in a relationship rather that money. They don't need money to be happy, they love eachother and they feel like that is the only thing that matters.
In the last stanza, it shows how her lover has somewhat changed her. "hold here, feel how my heart dances with sheer joy listen to that new rhythm
