Management and Operations Management Theory Paper
Gulick & Urwick say the management is getting activities completed efficiently and effectively with and through other people. In this paper we will discuss how the different functions of management impact the operations management theory of an organization. The four functions of management are planning, organizing, leading and controlling. Moreover we will describe the four management functions, the operations management theory, and explain how the four management functions impact the operations management theory.
The Four Management Functions
The four functions of management are planning, organizing, leading and controlling. At the government office I work, the Manager IV is responsible for the administrative portion of the department while the Manager I - III's are responsible for operations management. The Manager IV (as directed by the Deputy Director) does the planning, organizing, leading and controlling.
Planning involves marketing and staffing. Marketing of the DMV by Internet such as its strong points (for example, online registration renewal and address changes) and the abilities of the staffing (such as Vehicle Policy/Cassette training) or that we did not have any deficiencies on our last survey by the state, this will hopefully cause the census of the department to rise. Planning for staffing involves making sure that the proper staffing is in place for the type of clientele that we have and to meet regulations that are mandated by the legislators, especially by the Department of Transportation. To organize according to Dictionary.com is to put together into an orderly, functional, structured whole. Organizing has to do with making sure that each member of the team is doing what they need to do. The Director of Registration Operations Division, the Director of Allied Services, the supervisor in Data Entry is all responsible to the Deputy Director. The Motor Vehicle Technicians and Motor Vehicle Assistants are all
responsible to the Managers I and each must follow the chain of command, as do the others must be responsible to their own Managers.
Leading is self-explanatory, either you do or you follow; managers can not follow they must be the example for all of the employees to follow. The Manager IV is where the buck stops, they are responsible for every aspect of the department.
Control is an aspect of leading that a lot of managers do not grasp, control comes with leading. You can not control unless you lead. A lot of
