The God Delusion Ð'- Richard Dawkins
For wider reading I decided to read the book Ð''The God Delusion', I was originally enticed to read the book after seeing a documentary by Richard Dawkins on his theory of religion on ABC.
The book is not a novel but more like a book by Dawkins dedicated to supporting his argument and explaining his ideas on religion. Dawkins being one of the top intellects in the world provides a very convincing argument that really makes it an enjoyable book to read.
Because it would take a long time to list all the topics that Dawkins provide I will explain the topic from my favourite chapter, chapter 8.
In Chapter 8 Dawkins talks about why he feels so Ð''hostile' against religion.
Or in other words: The Influence of Religion
In this chapter Dawkins gives examples on how Religion promotes fanaticism and how religion can give people excuses to be immoral through using quotes in the bible. Dawkins states preachers in the United States used the Bible to justify slavery by claiming Africans were descendants of Noah's sinful son Ham.
He also explains the case of Reverend Paul Hill, who said in martyrdom: "I expect a great reward in heaven...I am looking forward to glory" he told as he faced execution for murdering a family planning doctor in Florida, USA. Ð'- Another example of fanatical religion.'
Concluding, I found the book to be very interesting especially to me and I think that Dawkins provides a very powerful argument in the large book.
