Me As A Junior

Now being a junior in high school, I look back at the eleven or so years of my life that has been in school and ahead at the new chapters of my life yet to be unfolded.
As a kid, like most other children, school had always been under appreciated and over looked of it's true importance. I remember thinking school as a place to socialize with friends and do crafts versus the values of learning and being educated. I never really complained about doing homework or being overworked because I always thought that it was too be done for a good grade and to make my parents and teachers happy. I did not realize the true dynamics of school and how it had built me as an individual and shaped my personality and character.
School has taught me several handy life skills. The many nights where I stayed up to do the piles of homework plus balancing my other responsibilities really taught me to be diligent and manageable with my time. I became natural at planning ahead and scheduling times for which I must complete a task even if sometimes I procrastinate. Next, school has given me the skill of being a listener. Outside of school and in organizations such as my church, I find myself usually in position of leadership and taking responsibility for the group. At school I became more of the participator. Although I am still liable to be a leader amongst the entire school, I still must take heed to the words of the President or sponsors of such organizations. I learned to really listen and help the leader which in turn strengthened my leadership skills outside of school. Hopefully one day I can be in a position of leadership or board member at my own school. Furthermore, school has taught me about the life in society and the importance of the people around me. I learned that friends are important in releasing some of that stress built up from school and to really utilize teachers for help on things I don't understand.
